Two hands, one heart, one crown

If a dimly-lit BTS photo from their Unisilver shoot looks this good, I wonder what the final product will be like?
I was running around so much yesterday that I didn’t notice the #KathNielForUnisilver hashtag until around 10:00 PM. But when I did, I immediately thought of vampire slayer Buffy Summers and her boyfriend, the vampire Angel, and the Claddagh ring her gave her one time. Let me explain.

For those who may be too young to remember, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was an American TV show that ran from March 10, 1997 to May 20, 2003. It was created by Joss Whedon (the writer-director of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, among other things) and followed the adventures of a young woman tasked to fight the forces of darkness.

In the show’s second season, Buffy and Angel encountered a demon called the Judge. The secret to defeating the Judge was to dismember him and keep all his body parts separated. When Buffy and Angel came across one of the Judge’s arms, Angel volunteered to travel halfway across the world with it to keep their enemies from bringing forth armageddon (no pun intended) by reassembling the Judge.

Naturally, the thought of Angel leaving town shattered Buffy’s heart. So to reassure the Slayer of his affections, Angel gave Buffy a Claddagh ring—a traditional Irish ring that symbolizes friendship, love and loyalty.

This is what a Claddagh ring looks like. Isn't it pretty?
Watch Angel give the ring to an emotional Buffy in a second-season episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer titled “Surprise” below:

What does this have to do with KathNiel, you ask? Well, I thought since both of them are Unisilver endorsers now, maybe the brand could have DJP and Kath be the faces of Claddagh rings.

The Claddagh ring’s trés distinctive design features a band that forms two hands clasping one heart, which almost always has a crown perched on top of it. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, and the crown represents loyalty. DJP and Kath were friends first before they fell in love with each other, and it’s safe to say the King of Hearts is loyal to his queen—and vice-versa.

Furthermore, I didn’t know Claddagh rings existed until I saw them in a supernatural-themed show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Since DJP and Kath are doing a similarly-themed show soon titled La Luna Sangre, I think it would be really awesome if Claddagh rings can be worked into the story of that show too. (Check out its trade trailer below.)

Hey, wait a minute—maybe the ABS-CBN Store could even forge a tie-up with Unisilver. ‘Di ba?

Lastly, Claddagh rings can be worn in four different ways to convey the wearer’s romantic status:

1. On the right hand, with the heart pointing to one’s fingertips – single and ready to mingle
2. On the right hand, with the heart pointing to one’s wrist – in a relationship
3. On the left hand, with the heart pointing to one’s fingertips – engaged
4. On the left hand, with the heart pointing to one’s wrist – married
You have to be careful when wearing a Claddagh ring!
Should Unisilver actually ask DJP and Kath to endorse Claddagh rings, what do you think they'll do? Obviously they won't wear them on their left hands yet, so the question is, will DJP and Kath wear Claddagh rings facing inwards, or outwards on their right hands? Hehe.

Regardless, congrats to DJP and Kath on this new campaign. #KathNielForUniSilver indeed!
